Monthly Favourites | June 2015

With June drawing to and end, and me taking this 'blogging' malarkey a little more seriously, I give you, my first monthly favourites post!

Diptyque - Florabellio

This is, hands down, my favourite perfume for Summery climes. It is fresh, crisp and totally unique, unlike anything I have smelt before. As described on the Space Nk website, it reminds me of a warm day at the seaside. If you're looking for a new Summer perfume, I highly recommend you check this one out. I have had countless compliments on it.

Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder

This is a great, lightweight powder for Summer. It's finely milled and very soft. It leaves a very natural finish on the skin and you literally feel that you aren't wearing any powder. It's enriched with Asian fruit therapy (smells devine) has great packaging (a mirror!) so is great for taking to work or on holiday with you.

Kiko - Miami Click Slick Eyeliner

This will not be for everyone, however, I like to be brave when it comes to makeup and picked this up when Kiko launched their Miami Beach Babe collection, I am so glad I did. I pair it with a nice copper toned eyeshadow and it looks great and really offsets my blue eyes. I love the fact that it clicks to dispense more product, it glides on like a dream and is really opaque. It's long wearing too. There are other shades to choose from if you aren't feeling as brave as me!

No.7 Stay Perfect Lipstick - Gay Geranium

Wow, what a shade. After seeing this lipstick on the lips of Danielle Vanier, the very next day it was in my clutches at the No.7 counter, it's amazing and ideal for Summer - it will look cracking with a tan. It's a highly pigmented, bright orange shade and it won't break the bank.

Nip & Fab Dragon's Blood Cleansing Pads

I did a recent blogpost about the Nip + Fab Dragons's blood range, here, and given how much I love them, it would be rude not to feature these in my favourites! I cannot express how amazing these pads are! They have worked wonders on my blemish prone skin. The even better news is that they are currently on offer at Boots for less than £5. With 60 pads in the pot - that is a BARGAIN if ever I saw one. I will 100% be stocking up.

Nars - Sheer Glow Foundation

I'm sure everyone and their dog have heard about this foundation, it's highly talked about in the beauty blogging world, and one of Tanya Burr's favourites, I obviously agree, hence it being here in this post! It's a definite must for warmer weather as it's so comfortable to wear. Whilst it feels like you aren't wearing foundation, it provides good coverage - crazy, I know, but you really do get the best of both worlds with this foundation. I use the shade Fiji.

Guerlain Terracotta Joli Teint Healthy Glow Powder Duo

Another 'Summer ready' product, but this one will suit every skin type as you can choose the shade based on your hair colour - clever, eh?! It adds the prettiest, sun kissed glow to your face. They smell freaking awesome too - now why a powder needs to smell good, I don't know, but there's just something about good smelling make up - who's with me?

Herbal Essences - Clearly Naked Dry Shampoo

I use dry shampoo a lot, and when I say a lot, I mean I use it, A LOT (don't judge me) with dyed, vibrant hair, I get serious fade issues with washing too much and I just ain't got time to be visiting the hairdressers every few weeks. So to get that extra day (or two) out of my hair, is where dry shampoo comes in. Now, if there's one thing I hate about dry shampoo it's that white reside left behind that you have to rub and rub a to get rid of, agree? ...enter this offering from Herbal Essences. No white reside, no horrible build up, just a freshly scented spray (kinda like green apples) which feels lightweight and absorbs excess oil and makes my hair feel fresher again. Highly recommend to all you dry shampoo junkies like me (you know who you are)

Tom Ford Cheek Colour - 03 Flush

A splurge, but one worth every penny in my opinion. A beautiful coral/pink toned blush which blends seamlessly over the cheeks, the perfect pop of colour for Summer, and the packaging? Everything you'd expect from a high end blush. This is another shade that will look stunning with a tan (can you tell I've got holidays on the brain?!)

This Works - Energy Bank Sunflash

Another new addition, but one that's made it's way to the front of the dressing table. The purchase of this was completely enabled by the Pixiwoos, not that I needed a second reason but when I read one of the ingredients was caramel, it was in the basket before you could say "as in salted" - I don't know what it is, but the fact that there's caramel in a product you apply to your face is just, heaven. The idea of this product is to add a swash of sunshine to the skin without any of the damage. I have been mixing a bit with my daily moisturiser and mixing together and i log the result it gives, healthy, glowy, has she been on holiday skin, and let's face it, who doesn't want that?!

So that's it gals, my first favourites post! I'd love to hear everything you've been loving this month and if you have tried anything I've been loving and what you thought.

Transform Your Skin With Dragon's Blood

I may be a bit late to the party in discovering the Dragon's Blood line from Nip & Fab, but boy am I glad to have it in my life now. I stumbled across it by accident whilst searching the Boots website, looking for that all important 3rd item to benefit from a 3 for 2 offer... a few clicks and a few days later the Dragon's Blood Cleansing Pads & Plumping Serum were with me and I was ready to start feeling all Daenerys Targareyn...
The products are designed with plumper, smoother, more youthful skin in mind. The name may sound scary, the 'blood' is actually created from the resin of a Croton Lechleri tree (Dragon Tree) and this resin has been used for many years as medicine, dye, incense and as a varnish. There are 3 products in this range - the pads, serum and a mask and they can be purchased individually or as a trio. Since I have far too many masks in my bathroom cupboard, I decided to restrain. The pads (of which you get 60) come in a sturdy plastic pot, they are a decent size, well coated in product and are not at all rough. There is quite a strong scent to them, which is not unpleasant and dies down after a few minutes.
It's not often I can say this, but after using them once, I saw results - (love it when this happens!) and by as soon as the next morning my skin looked better, this is all down to what's in the product; Sayliclic Acid - which cleanses pores, Hyaloronic Acid - this hydrates for plumper and smoother skin, Witch Hazel - which reduces redness and tightnes pores. Having blemish prone skin, I have used my fair share of products which leave the skin feeling tight, dry and completely stripped, my skin has been left feeling the complete opposite after using the Nip + Fab products - plump, smooth and they works wonders at banishing the blemishes too. I would highly recommend these to anyone with the same skin type as me. The serum can be used twice a day, before moisturisr, and offers an instant injection of moisture into the skin. It has a milky, gel consistency and sinks into the skin straight away. I found this to be a great base for make up as it leaves the skin feeling smooth and even. I have since discovered a tip, to keep the serum in the fridge so it applies cool on your skin - must give this a go!
I cannot recommend these products enough, when they run out I know already that I will repurchase and if anyone is worried about the price tag, don't be! The pads are £9.95, the serum £19.95. The 3 piece kit with the mask is £34.45 all avail from the Nip + Fab website direct. At the time of writing this blog, I have spotted that Boots have all the items in this range on offer, so you can pick up the pads for as little as £4.97! I know what I'm doing after finishing this post! I'd love to you know if you have tried any of the product from this range, or you were thinking of trying them out! Eyeshadow Palette For Under £4

Whilst perusing the aisles of Boots on your lunch break (as you do) I stumbled across the Collection stand, and spotted their eyeshadow palettes.
There were 3 shade choices, I decided to go for the Nude Bronze Palette

I was initially impressed by how compact the palette was (ideal for travelling) and the fact that a brush is included, although I don’t like these types of eyeshadow brushes, it’s always handy for any ‘make up emergencies’ we all know too well!
I also noticed that every shade corresponded to one from Urban Decays original Naked palette, which is a very loved palette for me.

I think this is a great palette, and when swatched, I matched each shade to one from the Naked Palette. Shades from the Collection Palette are on the left and listed on the top, and Naked Palette to the right, each of the shades listed on the bottom.

The pigmentation is great, they are buttery and last really well on the lid without creasing. I think this is a great palette for general day to day, for anyone starting out with make up and for taking on holiday too due to it’s compact size, you can create some great looks and smokey eyes with the shades…

What palettes would you recommend?

Supermarket Skincare #1

When it comes to the make up removal process, I imagine I'm not alone when I say I want something, quick, effective and makes my skin happy (or as happy as it can be!) Not too much to ask, right? I've been using the Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel and it's ticked all the boxes above,  at £20 a go however, it's certainly not cheap... so with the tube nearly making it's way to my 'empties' pile I thought it would be  good time to hunt for a cheaper offering...

Enter (a total surprise offering) the Pro Formula Radiance Melting Gel Cleanser from good old Tesco! Like the Clarins offering, it's a light gel cleanser, works a treat at removing make up and contains Green Tea & Vitamin E, leaving my skin feeling soft and looking radiant.

The normal price of the Tesco version is £5, for reasons unknown to me, the price of it in my local Tesco was £1.24, so naturally it was a sign to stock up! I picked up 4 tubes and already want to go back for more, in case this is a sign that they are discontinuing it! I hate it when that happens.... grrrrrrrr. I cannot see any reason to switch back to the Clarins gel cleanser (unless my suspicions above are confirmed) and it just shows you that there are always cheaper alternates out there that do just a good a job, and this one is definitely one to pop in your trolley when doing the weekly shop!

I have heard that Aldi offer some great 'dupes' with their Lacura range, I think that will be my next visit. Does anyone else have any supermarket steals when it comes to skincare? Lauren x
